The project we designed for the restoration of the roof of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris is contemporary and firmly rooted in our time.

Rather than introducing ornamentation to this historic and sacred site, the intention was to echo the architectural feats achieved during the original construction of the building. The use of stainless steel, proposed in our design, reflects the evolution of construction methods and materials developed by humankind. In the same spirit as Gothic architecture, whose essence lies in reaching the divine through richness, slenderness and elevation, we sought to express this transcendence through a monumental, aerial, refined and luminous structure.

The roof is composed of sculptural elements unfolding across the entire existing structure. At the crossing of the transept, in place of Viollet-le-Duc’s spire, an ensemble of metallic roots intertwines in a dynamic, almost flame-like movement.
